His nerves have gotten him far. He admits he was afraid to go to the bathroom when first meeting with Phoenix in France to sign them, for fear they may walk away. Glass, who doesn’t drink coffee, found himself downing espresso French-style to keep up with the band.
“It was the best rock record I’d heard in years,” he says of “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.” “I didn’t care about the three EMI records that had stiffed before. These were four of the coolest guys I’d ever met in my life.”
Phoenix said they wanted three things: Respect, to play a U.S. festival and to be on “Saturday Night Live.” Glass delivered in less than seven weeks. Respect, of course, was a given.
